Exploring the benefits of nature

A new All-Party Parliamentary Group on Health and the Natural Environment has been established to investigate the benefits that connecting with the natural environment has on our health and wellbeing.

The group, which is chaired by Alexander Stafford MP, will investigate:

  • The impact and benefits of nature on peoples’ health and wellbeing, particularly those from disadvantage areas.
  • The barriers to helping more people access the natural environment more regularly, and what changes in policy and provision are required.
  • How we might build resilience in local communities. Delivery programmes which aim to transform the scale and quality of nature-based activities and services offered by community groups and voluntary organisations across the country will be explored.

All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) are informal cross-party groups that have no official status within Parliament. They are run by and for Members of the Commons and Lords.

The National Academy for Social Prescribing has been appointed as the Secretariat to the APPG, in line with its strategic objective to raise the profile of social prescribing and to build relationships across sectors.
