The āHeritage Link Worker ā Heritage for Wellbeingā project run by the Restoration Trust has shown the power of heritage social prescribing and the importance of collaborating with local health and heritage services.
Since 2022 the project has supported over 70 individuals based in the small coastal communities of East Anglia, Great Yarmouth, Gorleston, and Lowestoft, by connecting them to local archaeology, ancient landscapes, historic sites, and archives.
Heritage for Wellbeing group
During the project, a core group of participants established the āHeritage for Wellbeingā group. The group helps people with a variety of needs come together to pursue their shared interests in local history and improve their wellbeing.
Although the Historic England Funding has now come to an end the group continues to thrive. Many of the members volunteer their time to the group and some have even become Trustees for the Restoration Trust. This coupled with the positive impact to participants health and wellbeing has enabled the group to secure further investment and transition into a self-sustaining community group.
