Evidence Community-led Social Prescribing

January 2025

This is the final report from a year-long research project exploring the potential for greater community involvement in and leadership of social prescribing in England. The research was commissioned by Local Trust and conducted by the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) at Sheffield Hallam University and the National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP).

The report looks at three questions:

  • What is ‘community-led social prescribing’ and how does it differ from other approaches to social prescribing?
  • What are the barriers and enablers of community involvement in social prescribing?
  • What are the benefits of community involvement in social prescribing, from the perspective of different stakeholders?
