Movement can make a meaningful difference to our health and wellbeing – from supporting physical and mental health to building confidence, independence, routine and participation in everyday life.
But creating active communities isn't simply about encouraging people to move more. Social prescribing provides a mechanism to have meaningful conversations about activity and connect people with ways to move that matter to them.
As part of Movement on Prescription, we’re delivering a series of webinars for those working across social prescribing, health and physical activity sectors, to build knowledge, confidence and skills in developing and delivering social prescribing pathways into movement.
Running from October 2026 to March 2027, the seven-part series is tailored to different audiences, including Social Prescribers, Active Partnerships, primary care, and physical activity providers. Across the series, we’ll explore different parts of the pathway; from using evidence and local insight effectively, through to social prescribing for children and young people.
For Active Partnerships and physical activity providers, the series will help you to:
-
Work with Link Workers, primary care and community partners to build clearer routes into physical activity through social prescribing.
-
Use evidence, participant feedback and data to improve provision and demonstrate its contribution to people’s health and wellbeing.
-
Explore how social prescribing, including community knowledge and person-centred approaches can help make movement opportunities more accessible and responsive to people's needs.
For Social Prescribing Link Workers, primary care partners and wider local systems, the series will help to:
-
Work with Active Partnerships and physical activity providers to identify suitable activities and strengthen provision and pathways.
-
Feel more confident navigating barriers or challenges around movement, supporting people to identify a next step that reflects their needs.
-
Strengthen connections between services for a frictionless pathway into movement through social prescribing.
You choose the sessions that feel most relevant to your work! You can also submit questions for the session and speakers when you register. Your questions will help inform the discussions and connect the sessions to the issues that matter to you.
