This webinar will launch the 2026 Revised Edition of the Green Social Prescribing Toolkit, which brings together lessons learned from the National Cross-Government Green Social Prescribing Programme to Tackle and Prevent Mental Ill-health.
The toolkit and the webinar are particularly aimed at people working at a strategic, systems level, who are seeking to embed green social prescribing into health systems.   
You will hear from two Programme Managers involved in the programme about some of their progress, learning and challenges, and from NASP and Natural England on next steps nationally.

Background 

The cross-Government Green Social Prescribing programme focused on seven areas across England to test how to embed green social prescribing into communities, in order to:

  • Improve mental health outcomes
  • Reduce health inequalities
  • Reduce demand on the health and social care system
  • Develop best practice in making green social activities more resilient and accessible

The cross-Government Green Social Prescribing progamme was funded through the Treasury Shared Outcomes Fund and managed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), Natural England, Sport England and NASP.  Its main phase ran from 2021 to 2023, with an extension phase in 2024-25.


The toolkit was originally created by NHS England in 2023 to capture learning from the programme. It has been edited and restructured by NASP in response to feedback and updated with new examples from the extension phase. Find out more.
