Dr Dean Dorsett, GP and Clinical Lead for Social Prescribing for Suffolk ICS

Louise Hardwick, Head of Partnerships and Alliance Delivery, NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk CCG

In this webinar we heard from commissioners about the challenges of commissioning community activities for social prescribing, and explored how VCSE organisations can work with commissioners to ensure each gets what they need. With practical advice we learned how community projects have built strong relationships with commissioners, and their strategies for approaching local commissioners to build a shared vision for their work.

Our speakers discussed:

  • The importance of building a shared vision, and how relationships are essential for delivering the right kind of support and value.
  • How link workers in integrated neighbourhood teams use their knowledge of the community to to enable community groups to be equal partners with those working in primary and secondary care.
  • The importance of patient voice and coproduction.
  • How embedded place based organisations can support people with their specific needs.
  • How if VCSE groups want to advice want to offer their services as a solution, it is crucial to really get to know what commissioners and integrated care system’s pain points.
  • The value of partnership working for holistic and full service solutions.
  • The impact of social prescribing on admission avoidance and high intensity repeat admission strains, reducing NHS pressures.
  • Why organisations should put themselves forward early in the process, so they are front of mind when money is available.

The message was clear. We are all working towards the same thing, and it’s by coming together to deliver it that real value can be added.
