Apply for a Power of Music grant

The Power of Music Fund will be accepting applications until 22 December 2023.

Dementia choirs, musical activities for carers and other initiatives supporting people through music will be able to apply for multi-year grants of either £1,000 or £2,000 per year, depending on the size and scope of the project. Additional support will be available for set-up costs.

Who can apply?

You can apply if you are any of the following:

UK constituted voluntary or community organisation
UK registered charity
UK charitable incorporated organisation (CIO)
UK not-for-profit company
UK community interest company (CIC)
UK statutory body eg NHS
A care provider registered with the CQC

There is a wide variety of music activities for people living with dementia and we would welcome applications from providers of all different types of musical offers and services.

We can fund new activity, however your organisation should already be delivering music activities or working with people living with dementia and carers. We'll also fund those already delivering music activities for people living with dementia.

Your activity should take place between April 2024 – Dec 2026 and be delivering activities to a group of 10 people or more.

Applications are for multi-year funding.

We will accept applications from organisations who have currently, or have previously been, grantees of The Utley Foundation/funder. In the instance that an organisation is a current grantee of The Utley Foundation, the Power of Music Fund grant would need to be for another activity, and not the one for which you are already receiving Utley Foundation funding.

This funding is not suitable for:

Individuals, sole traders, non-UK organisations
Organisations who are not already providing music activities or working with people living with dementia as part of their existing delivery

Small grants criteria

Essential

To use some form of music to support or reach people living with dementia or their carers.
To deliver projects which see improvements in wellbeing, reduced isolation, including improved access to supportive services, peer support and social contact.
Those working with people from disadvantaged and marginalised communities. We will assess the spread of applications and prioritise those in most deprived areas. We are aiming for a culturally and ethnically diverse portfolio of projects.
Willingness to engage with a Power of Music Fund community of practice to share and learn from a network of other providers and experts.
Willingness to connect to local healthcare (such as a link worker, GP or memory clinic). NASP will provide support to help with this.

How much are the grants?

Grants are available of either £1,000 or £2,000 per year, and will be paid in instalments over three years. You can also apply for an additional £1,000 for set-up or equipment costs.
